About Mansiya
Sarah:
I fell in love with Manchesters as a child as there was a mannie boy in our village who always looked a very smart little dog amongst all the JRTs that were about and I became owned by a Manchester in 1981 when I had an ex show girl who became my horsebox mascot. She was followed by many others over the years but has always remained my ‘mind’s eye dog’.
'Mansiya' was started when I decided in 2007 to breed a litter of puppies from Maisie [Eaglespur Midnight Gala for Mansiya]. I wanted a kennel name that started with 'Man' and a friend has an ex-racehorse called Mansiya. When we Googled the name, one of the results said that Mansiya was a pseudonym used by a freedom fighter for 'the forgotten'. That seemed rather apt as Manchesters are one of the 'forgotten' terrier breeds. Mansiya also sounds like a cross between Mandy and Sarah so was obviously meant to be.
Mansiya are mainly based in Wiltshire not far from the village of Avebury, home to famous henge - www.avebury-web.co.uk/index.html Living close to the M4 corridor, we are easy to get to and welcome visitors. Our dogs live as part of the family, we do not have kennels, and we are lucky to have a nice big garden and easy going dog loving neighbours!
After losing Maisie at the end of 2007, I decided to try something different. I had always been very impressed with the showmanship and movement of friends’ dogs in America, plus the level of health checks done on their breeding lines. After a lot of research and late night/early morning ‘chats’ on the internet with friends in America, I imported a little girl as a potential wife for Darchy. That little girl was Shelby, Am Ch Oakwoods Special Edition to Mansiya, who came from Kimberle Schiff of Oakwoods Manchester Terriers and German Pinschers. We were introduced by Elizabeth Treese, Ebets, who bred my gorgeous TMT Dixie.
Shelby is our foundation bitch and we couldn’t have asked more from her. She has made us some beautiful babies to work with. Currently Mansiya are the only English kennel mixing English lines with American bloodlines. Our show team are all Anglo American and we are thrilled with the quality dogs that we are producing by mixing the types.
Through this website and Facebook, our dogs are there for all to see. We have nothing to hide and are extremely proud of the dogs that we have bred. We are lucky to have some of the top English lines to work with including Brookstream, Calastoa and Sophyla and hope to work with another top British kennel in the future. All our dogs are vWD free and are health checked before being bred from. Some wonderful worldwide friendships have been made because of our dogs and we thank those friends, breeders, judges, and never-met-in-person internet friends who have helped us along the way with their encouragement, advice and support. Thank you as well to those who have thought highly enough of our dogs to want to own their own Mansiya Manchester Terrier and be part of our unique international family. In 2011, there will be a Mansiya in Australia and another Mansiya in Texas. We also hope to import in the future to keep our line’s health and type nice and strong.
