Team Mansiya are Sarah Leigh and Mandy Carter plus our respective families without whose help we couldn't do what we do. Sarah lives in Wiltshire and Mandy lives in Cornwall and BT do very well out of our phone bills.
I fell in love with Manchesters as a child as there was a mannie boy in our village who always looked a very smart little dog amongst all the JRTs that were about and I became owned by a Manchester in 1981 when I had an ex show girl who became my horsebox mascot. She was followed by my first Manchester puppy in 1984, then various 'rescue' Manchesters.
'Mansiya' was started when I decided to breed a litter of puppies from Maisie [Eaglespur Midnight Gala for Mansiya]. I wanted a kennel name that started with 'Man' and a friend has an ex-racehorse called Mansiya. When we Googled the name, one of the results said that Mansiya was a pseudonym used by a freedom fighter for 'the forgotten'. That seemed rather apt as Manchesters are one of the 'forgotten' terrier breeds. It also, by chance, sounds like it could be a mix between Mandy and Sarah so was obviously meant to be.
Mandy and I got together when I decided to show Darchy. I am what is known as 'ring shy'. I don't mind handling but would prefer not to. I am most happiest behind the scenes as chief cook, bottle washer, taxi driver and groom.
Mandy is a fantastic handler and has shown and has handled many dogs of many different breeds to major wins at championship and open show levels . Her main breed is Ibizan Hounds. Because Mandy is such a kind person, Darchy took to her straight away and they clicked together beautifully. They have had numerous wins at open and champ shows, ending their first season together winning best pup in breed at Crufts 2009 and Darchy's junior warrant title at the same time.
Recently they won their third ticket together which gave Darchy his champion title.
Something here when Mandy gets round to writing it. Could be a while.
